  1. Lavery helps NorthStar to close an investment round worth approximately CA$ 47 million

    On December 23, 2022, NorthStar Earth & Space Inc. closed a Series C investment round worth approximately CA$ 47 million, with Cartesian Capital Group, LLC, as lead investor through its fund, Pangaea Three Acquisition Holdings III, LLC, Telesystem Space Inc., Luxembourg Future Fund – Co-Investments SA, the Québec Government through its mandatary Investissement Québec, and the Luxembourg Space Sector Development SCSp funded by the world’s leading connectivity solutions provider, SES, and the Luxembourg Government. With this investment, NorthStar will be able to fully finance its Space Situational Awareness (SSA) development project and the launch of its first three monitoring satellites scheduled for mid-2023. Lavery was privileged to represent NorthStar in this important mandate. Our partner, Ms. France Camille De Mers, led the transaction with the support of Mr. Philippe Brassard and Ms. Pamela Cifola, in particular. Our partners Mr. Ali El Haskouri and Mr. André Vautour also helped make the transaction a success. — NorthStar Earth & Space Inc. is the first commercial enterprise to monitor all near-Earth orbits from space and combine data from a variety of ground-based sensors to provide more extensive coverage. Its suite of high-speed information services accurately tracks and predicts the position of space objects to enable safety in spaceflight.   2. A new associate joins Lavery

    Lavery is pleased to welcome Alexandre Turcotte to its Montréal office. He works primarily in corporate finance law, mergers and acquisitions and securities. Alexandre is joining the Business Law group. He works primarily in mergers and acquisitions, securities and corporate finance law. In his practice, he has represented and advised private companies and public institutions for significant business transactions and operations. "I decided to join Lavery to specialize my practice in business law and to develop my skills at a firm of excellence that offers great opportunities to young lawyers.   4. Selena Lu: a rising star of Canada’s legal community

    Lavery is proud to announce that on November 22, Selena Lu received the Rising Stars Leading Lawyers Under 40 award from Lexpert. This prestigious award honours lawyers under the age of 40 who distinguish themselves in the legal profession. The winners are selected by a jury of law firm managing partners and recognized corporate counsels, based on rigorously studied criteria like leadership, outstanding professional achievement and the services provided to clients. As a partner in the Business Law group, Selena focuses her practice on mergers and acquisitions. She frequently advises clients abroad on commercial law, investment and expansion in Canada.  Over the years, Selena has acquired significant experience in supporting customers in their technological change. On a day-to-day basis, she advises clients on the legal impacts of the introduction of new technologies.  Selena is also actively involved in her community. She has held several leadership roles, including President of the Young Chinese Professionals Association (YCPA), Chair of the organizing committee of the Montreal Chinese Hospital Foundation Ball and President of the Junior Chamber of Commerce of Montreal. She currently sits on several boards, including the Société du Parc Jean-Drapeau, the Collège des administrateurs de sociétés and the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec.  “It’s an honour for me to receive this award—I’m truly touched!   5. Lavery recognized by The Globe and Mail as one of Canada's Best Law Firms 2023

    On November 15, 2022, the Globe and Mail released the results of its inaugural edition of Canada's Best Law Firm for 2023 and we are pleased to announce that Lavery was included. The ranking for Canada’s Best Law Firms was created based on recommendations from lawyers and clients (corporate legal departments). The final list ranks law firms in 28 specialties. Out of the thousands of law firms analyzed, only 200 are recognized.

  7. Anik Trudel appointed Chair of the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal (CCMM)

    On Tuesday, October 18, the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal (CCMM) announced the appointment of Anik Trudel, Chief Executive Officer of Lavery, as Chair of its Board of Directors. A staple in the Montréal business community, the CCMM has been strengthening the city’s business environment and prosperity and providing support to Montréal businesses for nearly 200 years. The Chamber invests in key sectors of economic development through an action-oriented approach based on commitment, credibility, proactivity, collaboration and forward-thinking. Our CEO has been involved with the CCMM since 2018.
