Michel Yergeau devotes all of his law practice to environmental matters. Over the years, he has dealt with many aspects of the application of environmental laws and regulations, without however neglecting the environmental planning and public consultation issues that are important to him.
Mr. Yergeau is a seasoned litigator who handles civil, criminal and administrative issues and has pleaded cases involving matters such as: transportation of hazardous goods and waste; reuse, recycling and elimination of industrial residues; financing the environmental operations of companies; protection of flood-prone areas; rate structures for domestic waste removal; environmental arbitration; energy; hydroelectric development; criminal charges; aboriginal law, and so on.
In addition, he provides advice on environmental matters to engineering firms, environmental consulting firms, municipalities, industrial and manufacturing businesses of national and international scope, and groups working on environmental issues.
From 1979 to 1984, Mr. Yergeau held the position of Vice-President of the Bureau d'audiences publiques sur l'environnement, a permanent agency of the Quebec government that holds inquiries on environmental protection issues. Mr. Yergeau has been Chairman of the Board of the firm.
Michel Yergeau is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He is listed in the LEXPERT®/American Lawyer Media Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada. He is also listed in The Canadian Legal LEXPERT® Directory 2011 in the field of Environmental Law. He was recognized as a global leader in environmental law in Who's Who Legal in 2004. Mr. Yergeau is also recognized in the 2012 directory The Best Lawyers in Canada in the field of Environmental Law.
He is frequently invited as a guest speaker by universities and various organizations.
