  1. Chloé Fauchon hosts Projection Libre on MATV for the second consecutive year

    This fall, Chloé Fauchon, a lawyer of the Public and Administrative Law group, is hosting Projection Libre for the second year. The show is broadcast on MATV. Projection libre presents all kinds of short films (fiction, documentary, etc.) produced by Quebec filmmakers. Chloé Fauchon and her guests discuss different themes, which vary from show to show. Most of the works presented are produced by members of Spira, an artists’ cooperative dedicated to independent cinema.

  2. Daniel Bouchard and Chloé Fauchon speak at a conference on recent developments in environment law

    Daniel Bouchard, Managing Partner of the Québec City office and Chloé Fauchon, a lawyer of the Public and Administrative Law group, spoke at Les développements récents en droit de l’environnement, a conference on recent developments in environment law organized by the Barreau du Québec and held on June 2, 2017, at the Palais des congrès de Montréal. They reviewed the recent jurisprudence on environment law and commented on the effects and scope of Bills 102 and 132, in particular the notion of watercourse, the civil liability of the Minister of the Environment in the exercise of his duties, and the procedure for obtaining an authorization certificate in an emergency.

  3. Marie Cossette and Chloé Fauchon speak at the 2017 AÉECQ Convention

    On May 25, Marie Cossette, partner and head of the Business Integrity practice and the Quebec City Public and Administrative Law group, and Chloé Fauchon, an associate with the same group, spoke at the 2017 Convention of the Association des estimateurs et des économistes de la construction du Québec (AEÉCQ), which was held May 25-26 at the Loews Hôtel Vogue in Montreal. Entitled Bill 108: highlights of the new rules on public contracting and the powers of the Autorité des marchés publics, the presentation answered many questions about the newly created Autorité des marchés publics (AMP) introduced in Bill 108, in particular the amendments tabled by the Minister subjecting municipalities to the AMP.   To learn more about Bill 108, click here to consult our bulletin Need to Know.

  4. Chloé Fauchon leads panel discussion for the CBA-Quebec

    On March 16, Chloé Fauchon led a panel discussion entitled “La cohérence décisionnelle - pourquoi ? par qui ? – débat sur les suites de l’arrêt Wilson de la Cour suprême du Canada” (consistency in decision-making: why? by whom? – discussion on the aftermath of the Supreme Court of Canada’s decision in Wilson), organized by the Administrative Law Section of the Quebec Chapter of the Canadian Bar Association. Using the recent divided opinion in Wilson as an example, this panel discussion sought primarily to define the respective roles of the courts and administrative tribunals when they are faced with conflicting decisions by an administrative tribunal on the same legal issue. The panelists, Denis Lemieux, professor of administrative law in the Université Laval’s Faculty of Law, and Lucie Nadeau, vice-president for quality and consistency at the Tribunal administratif du travail, also attempted to identify concrete solutions that dispel the legal uncertainty caused by inconsistency in decision-making.

  5. Marie Cossette and Chloé Fauchon participated to a debate on the lawyers’ freedom of expression

    On November 23, 2016, Marie Cossette, partner and Chloé Fauchon, lawyer, participated to ABC-Quebec debate entitled “The limits of professional freedom of expression”.  Several topics were covered and Marie Cossette, partner, acted as moderator., Chloé Fauchon encouraged the invited speakers to discuss the balance between the obligation of courtesy,  the obligation to encourage respect for the courts of law and the judicial system, together with one’s duty to criticize them when necessary.

  6. Lavery and Marie Cossette inspire professional ambition in women

    Marie Cossette, a partner at the firm and one of the leaders of the first cohort in the L’effet A initiative in Quebec City, has set up a challenge for participants who have chosen her as a leader. She has recruited participants from both the culturaland corporate world thus  creating interesting networking opportunities. Four Lavery lawyers (Paméla Kelly-Nadeau, Chloé Fauchon,Sarah Leclerc and Anthonie Vézina-Crawford) have taken the Défi 100 jours L’effet A (link to French-only website): a unique professional training program with an innovative approach that identifies talent and encourages women to adopt a more ambitious attitude that will help boost their careers. The experience is based on three pillars: 1) inspiration- the implication of well-known leaders and coaches, 2) action- by taking up challenges and completing exercises and 3) sharing,-through interaction with women from all professional spheres.

  7. Fer & Métaux Garand avoids administrative monetary penalty (AMP)

    Daniel Bouchard and Chloé Fauchon have convinced theministère de l’Environnement (MDDELCC) to waive a planned administrative monetary penalty (AMP) against Fer & Métaux Garand . The transmission through the air of an unregulated contaminant (noise) cannot lead to a neighbourhood disturbance penalty.

  8. Chloé Fauchon and Charlotte Fortin participate in a discussion on climate change with the federal Minister of Environment and Climate Change

    On August 23, 2016, Chloé Fauchon and Charlotte Fortin, as members of Jeunes Philanthropes de Québec, participated in a meeting led by Minister of Environment and Climate Change, the Honourable  Catherine McKenna and Joël Lightbound, MP for Louis-Hébert.  The purpose of this meeting was to exchange ideas regarding the steps governments and citizens can take to fight climate change. The Minister was in Quebec City to participate in a series of meetings aimed at reaching a pan-Canadian agreement on clean growth and focused on the fight against climate change planned for this fall. Ms. Fortin also sits on the board of directors of Jeunes Philanthropes de Québec, a not-for-profit organization founded a few years ago by Jean-Simon Deschênes, partner at Lavery and a member of the Business law group.  Left to right: Chloé Fauchon, Charlotte Fortin, the Honourable Catherine McKenna and Joël Lightbound.

  9. Lavery’s roundtable on entrepreneurship

    On May 9, 2016, Lavery’s Quebec City office welcomed three speakers for a roundtable on entrepreneurship. Véronique Simard of  Flirt store and Louis Tremblay of AddÉnergie discussed their entrepreneurial journey with young entrepreneurs from the region including students from l’École d’entrepreneuriat de Québec.   10. Lavery at the Pentathlon des neiges Corporate Challenge

    On February 20, five lawyers from Lavery’s Quebec City office participated in the Pentathlon des neiges Corporate Challenge on Quebec City’s Plains of Abraham. Profits from the event will go to the “À l’école, moi j’bouge” project, which enables youngsters from low-income families to participate in after-school activities. Bernard Roy began the event on bike, followed by Chloé Fauchon on foot, Anthonie Vézina-Crawford on cross-country skis, François Bélanger on skates, and Sylvain Pierrard on snowshoes.   12. Daniel Bouchard of Lavery speaker at the seminar of the Fédération québécoise des municipalités

    On September 25, 2015, Mr. Daniel Bouchard, managing partner of Lavery’s Quebec City office, gave a conference entitled “Une équipe maire – DG : une formule gagnante dans l’administration d’une municipalité” (A Mayor and General Director team: a winning combination in municipal administration) at the Fédération québécoise des municipalités seminar. Ms. Valérie Belle-Isle and Ms. Chloé Fauchon, administrative law associates, presented the same conference in English. The conference discussed the respective roles of the mayor and director general.
