  2. Élisabeth Pinard and Pierre Marc Johnson named Lawyer Emeritus (Ad. E.) by the Barreau du Québec

    In a press release issued August 3, the Barreau du Québec published the list of those named Lawyer Emeritus (Ad. E.) in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the profession and exceptional career. Lavery is proud to announce that Élisabeth Pinard, coordinating partner of the Family, Personal and Estates Law group and Pierre Marc Johnson, counsel and chief negotiator for the Government of Quebec have been awarded this distinction. This recognition confirms Élisabeth’s expertise in family law and the reputation she enjoys in Quebec and internationally among a number of institutions, businesses and organizations. She was also recently inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. “Her sharp legal mind, strong sense of justice, fairness and integrity, but above all, that dose of humanity that she injects into everything she undertakes bring honour to the profession”, commented Anik Trudel, Lavery’s Chief Executive Officer. The title Advocatus Emeritus will be officially awarded at a ceremony to be held on November 21 in Montréal. Pierre Marc Johnson will be awarded the distinction Lawyer Emeritus, after having received the Barreau du Québec Medal earlier this year.   5. Pierre Marc Johnson speaks at the 8th edition of the Québec Industrial Barometer

    On May 12, Pierre Marc Johnson, counsel and lead negotiator for the Quebec government on the Comprehensive and Economic Trade Agreement (CETA), commented on the results of the 8th edition of the Québec Industrial Barometer during an event organized by Sous-Traitance Industrielle Québec (STIQ). At the same time, he informed the manufacturers present that it was important to put in place a European Union export strategy and action plan given the CETA’s imminent provisional entry into force. Since 2009 STIQ has been publishing the Québec Industrial Barometer, which draws an annual portrait of the manufacturing sector using a series of measurable indicators and provides an overview of the situation in Quebec.

  6. Pierre Marc Johnson, recipient of the Médaille du Barreau du Québec

    This year the Barreau du Québec will award its highest honour, the Médaille du Barreau to Pierre Marc Johnson, Counsel at Lavery and former Premier of Quebec. This greatly deserved honour recognizes his career as a jurist and a politician and more particularly his contribution to the advancement of law and the public interest.  Acting as chief negotiator for Quebec since 2009 during the negotiations of the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), Me Johnson was responsible for relations and representations with Canadian and European Union representatives, on behalf of a dozen Quebec government ministries. The negotiations culminated on February 15th of this year when the European Parliament approved the CETA. The signing of this agreement is an unprecedented event for Quebec as it is the first time in its history that the province has fully participated in the negotiation of an international trade agreement. "The immense pleasure and great pride we felt upon learning the news is equal to the privilege we enjoy of being able to count on a lawyer of Pierre Marc Johnson’s calibre among our ranks", stated Anik Trudel, Chief Executive Officer. Me Johnson will receive his award on June 15th at the Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, during the opening dinner of the Journées du Barreau du Québec.   7. Lavery welcomes the “Québec, porte d'entrée de l'Amérique du Nord” tour

    On April 26, Lavery welcomed a delegation of French business leaders during the Québec, porte d'entrée de l'Amérique du Nord (Quebec, the gateway to North America) tour organized by International Mission and held from April 25 to 27. Pierre Marc Johnson, counsel and chief negotiator for Quebec for the Comprehensive and Economic Trade Agreement (CETA), discussed the different business opportunities available in Quebec, particularly in light of the European Parliament’s recent ratification of the CETA.

  8. Pierre Marc Johnson participates in the “Québec, porte d'entrée de l'Amérique du Nord” conference in Toulouse

    On March 9, Pierre Marc Johnson, counsel and chief negotiator for the Government of Quebec for the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), spoke at an event held at the head office of the Banque Courtois in Toulouse and organized by International Mission. Mr. Johnson’s subject was Québec, porte d'entrée de l'Amérique du Nord (Quebec, the gateway to North America), and he shared the platform with Yves Grimard, Europe director atInvestissement Québec, and David Kassar, President of International Mission. The speakers discussed the various business opportunities in Quebec for firms from the region, in particular in connection with the recent ratification of the CETA by the European Parliament.   12. Pierre Marc Johnson speaks at Université de Montréal’s Rendez-vous juridiques

    Pierre Marc Johnson, counsel and lead negotiator for the Quebec government on the Comprehensive and Economic Trade Agreement (CETA), spoke about free trade agreements during the Rendez-vous juridiques organized by the Université de Montréal Faculty of Law. He discussed how Canada should position itself in order to benefit from the new free trade agreements and the new US trade policy.
