A Brazilian Judge Orders the Return of a Child Abducted by his Mother: a First in that Country

In a decision issued on March 19, 2007, Judge Wilney Magno de Azevedo Silva, of the 16th Federal Court of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), ordered the return to Québec of a child abducted by his mother and taken to Brazil. Even though Brazil, like Canada, is bound by the Hague Convention of 25 October 1980 on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction, it is the first time that such an order has been issued in that country. The father was represented by Gerald Stotland and Caroline Harnois.
