A partner in the Business Law Group, Éric Goulet focuses his practice on mergers and acquisitions and financing, including cross-border transactions and financings. He advises businesses on complex matters that call for rigorous legal analysis, sound judgment and a thorough understanding of their commercial and operational challenges. A trusted advisor, he favours practical, creative solutions tailored to his clients’ objectives and constraints.

Éric works primarily in the manufacturing, energy and infrastructure sectors. He advises manufacturers of industrial equipment and components, including those serving the agricultural and energy markets, as well as contractors specializing in the engineering, procurement and construction of electrical and telecommunications infrastructure. He understands the contractual and commercial issues associated with manufacturing, procurement and project delivery, as well as the demands of business relationships with energy companies and public and private sector project owners.

His expertise also encompasses commercial contract negotiations, corporate governance, litigation management, and public procurement regulation and compliance. A cornerstone of his practice is his ability to assess situations involving multiple layers of complexity and propose workable solutions. Whether advising on an acquisition, a financing or a contractual challenge, he provides legal and strategic advice that considers both risk and the company’s operational realities.

Clients value his responsiveness, attentiveness, patience and efficiency. His open-mindedness and collaborative approach enable him to understand their concerns, navigate competing interests and move matters forward with sound judgment. He places particular importance on providing clear advice that supports informed decision-making.

Before entering private practice, Éric spent five years as legal counsel and corporate secretary of a company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange. The company was active in electricity transmission networks and in the manufacture, sale and distribution of continuously variable transmissions for recreational vehicles and vehicles that can be driven without a licence. Its operations were primarily based in the United States, France, China and India. This in-house experience informs his understanding of executive responsibilities, industrial activities and the challenges specific to international operations.
