Great Victory of UQAM at the Pierre-Basile-Mignault Moot Court Competition: Lavery leads Quebec's future litigators towards excellence
On February 15 and 16, 2019, the 41st Pierre-Basile-Mignault Moot Court Competition was held between students from six Canadian civil law faculties. Once again this year, the UQAM team of law students (Dana Farès, Étienne C. Laplante, David Létourneau, Frédéric Comeau, Véronique Faucher-Lefebvre, and Gabriel Langelier), supervised by Myriam Brixi and Dominique Vallières, won five prizes, namely: The Bâtonnier du Québec Cup for best team; The Association des professeurs de droit du Québec Cup for best factum (respondent's factum); The SOQUIJ Cup for 2nd best factum (appellant's factum); The Yvon Blais Cup - tandem finalist (appellants - Frédéric Comeau and David Létourneau); The Canadian Bar Association Cup for 2nd best litigator (David Létourneau). Myriam Brixi appointed to the Barreau du Québec’s committee on access to justice
Myriam Brixi, a lawyer with the Litigation and Conflict Resolution group, has been appointed to the Barreau du Québec’s committee on access to justice for a four-year term. The members of the committee are tasked with: - Suggesting measures to improve access to justice in Quebec; - Promoting dialogue on access to justice between the Barreau du Québec’s committees; - Developing the Barreau du Québec’s general view on access to justice; - Establishing a justice summit.

The Pierre-Basile-Mignault Moot Court Competition: five prizes for a team supervised by Lavery
On February 16 and 17, 2018, the 40th edition of the Pierre-Basile-Mignault moot court competition was held between students from six Canadian civil law faculties. Lavery has been involved for several years, alongside students of the competition. This year, Justin Gravel supervised students of the Université de Sherbrooke, while Myriam Brixi and Dominique Vallières supervised students of the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). The UQAM team, which included Valérie Dupont, Vincent Grondin, Emmanuelle Arcand and Gabriel Sévigny-Ferland, set themselves apart by winning five of the nine prizes awarded in the competition: best team, best factum, tandem finalist of the finale (2nd best tandem), 2nd best litigator and best tandem of non-finalist litigators. The Lavery Cup for the 3rd best litigator was presented by Loïc Berdnikoff to Chloé Boisvenue of the University of Ottawa. Myriam Brixi, Loïc Berdnikoff and Lavery on hand at Legal IT 2016 conference
The 10th anniversary of the Legal IT conference took place March 21, 2016 at the Centre des Sciences de Montréal with over 200 attendees. The event was organized by Myriam Brixi, a lawyer in Lavery’s Litigation group whose practice focuses on class actions, insurance law, and civil liability, in her role as a director and head of the IT Committee of the Young Bar Association of Montreal. Lavery was one of the event’s sponsors, and Loïc Berdnikoff, a partner in the firm’s administrative law team with expertise in the areas of access to information and the protection of personal information, presented a conference entitled “Behavioral Advertising: the New Klondike for Advertisers”. Myriam Brixi publishes an article in Class Action Defence Quaterly
Myriam Brixi, a litigation lawyer at Lavery, authored an article published in the September edition of Class Action Defence Quaterly. Entitled “Historic Quebec lawsuit against tobacco companies », she discusses the May 27, 2015 Superior Court of Québec decision ordering the three leading Canadian tobacco companies to pay over 15 billion dollars in moral and punitive damages following two class actions filed in the late 1990s. Two Lavery lawyers named members of the Board of Directors of the Young Bar Association of Montreal
Lavery congratulates Léa Maalouf and Myriam Brixi, lawyers in Lavery’s Litigation Group, for their election as members of the Young Bar Association of Montreal’s Board of Directors 2015-2016, during the annual general meeting which took place on May 29, 2015 at the Palais des congrès. This is Ms. Maalouf’s third term as administrator. For the second year in a row, the election was held electronically, and 782 members exercised their right to vote, making this board of directors the most representative to date. Lavery also wishes to highlight the excellent work of Ms. Zeïneb Mellouli, Labour and Employment Law associate at Lavery and administrator during the 2014-2015 term, for her involvement and accomplishments within the Young Bar Association this past year.
