  1. Sports law: Sébastien Vézina and Sonia Rasquinha negotiate a partnership with Top Rank on behalf of Groupe Yvon Michel

    A rematch between ex-champion Sergey Kovalev and Colombian-born Montrealer Eleider Alvarez will take place on February 2, 2019. This will be the first fight following a series of agreements entered into in December 2018 between Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM) and Top Rank to co-promote WBO light heavyweight world titleholder Eleider “Storm” Alvarez. These multi-year co-promotional agreements will cover multiple fights. Our client, GYM, is one of the most respected organizations in Canada for organizing international boxing events and managing high-level boxers. Throughout its history, GYM has promoted champions who won world titles, including Joachim Alcine and Jean Pascal. Top Rank is a well-known boxing promotions company affiliated with the American sports television channel ESPN. Top Rank has promoted many world-class fighters, including Muhammad Ali and Oscar De La Hoya. Sébastien Vézina, a partner in the Business Law group, handled negotiations to reach the agreements, with the support of Sonia Rasquinha, a lawyer in the same group. Sébastien Vézina frequently provides businesses in the sports industry with advice on anything related to the business and legal aspects of their activities.

  2. A Lavery team participates in the 5th edition of Juritour

    On September 17, a team of four firm members participated in the 5th edition of the Juritour bike-a-thon that started and finished at the Les Trois Tilleuls inn in Saint-Marc-sur-Richelieu. Composed of Daphnée Anctil, Loïc Berdnikoff, Charles Ceelen-Brasseur and Sonia Rasquinha, the Lavery team pedalled 45 km along the Richelieu shores for the benefit of Cystic Fibrosis Canada and the Fondation l’air d’Aller. The event raised a grand total of over $142,000 for the two organizations that conduct research and offer care to people suffering from cystic fibrosis. Daphnée Anctil and Sonia Rasquinha

  3. Lavery GO inc. partners with Startup Salad MTL 2017

    Concordia University hosted Startup Salad x MTL 2017, a competition organized by the Asian-Pacific Youth Entrepreneurship Foundation (“APYEF”) and held May 5 to 7, 2017. This year’s winning team was awarded the services of the Lavery GO inc. Program. Martin Bédard, Shan Jiang, Felicia Jin and Sonia Rasquinha attended to listen to the teams’ presentations and award the prize to the winner. Startup Salad is a competition banner that hosts events in over 50 cities worldwide. This year’s competition took place in Montréal thanks to the APYEF, a Montréal-based association that seeks to establish an Asia-Pacific sharing platform for young entrepreneurs. Competitors had 52 hours to form teams and prepare a business plan. Each team then had to present their plan to a panel of professionals who selected the winning team.

  4. Lavery welcomes three new lawyers

    Lavery is pleased to welcome three new lawyers, Katherine Athanasopoulos, Nadia Hanine and Sonia Rasquinha, to the firm. They bring with them the knowledge and experience they gained as articling students with the firm and will be joining the Business Law group. “Hiring these three new lawyers is a testament to the quality of their work as articling students. We are proud to be keeping the students we trained among our ranks,” said Jean-Yves Simard, Lavery’s Interim Managing Partner.
