Marie Cossette, speaker at the Colloque des dirigeants des ordres professionnels
Marie Cossette, a partner at Lavery whose litigation practice focuses on public, administrative and disciplinary law, and who is responsible for the firm’s integrity practice, provided training at the 6th edition of the Colloque des dirigeants des ordres professionnels, which was held from September 2 to September 4, 2015, in Quebec City. Ms. Cossette gave a workshop entitled “Votre Ordre vit une crise médiatique : sauriez-vous y faire face?” (Your Order is going through a crisis : would you know how to tackle it?), in which she presented various case studies to help define the notion of crisis management and a management plan, stages of crisis management, the role lawyers play as well as special measures to face it. Organized jointly by the Quebec Interprofessional Council and the Quebec College of Physicians, this conference gathers more than 300 professionals to analyze common issues and find possible solutions.

Marie Cossette, honorary president at the 4th International Arson Investigators Conference
Marie Cossette, a partner at Lavery, whose litigation practice focuses on public, administrative and disciplinary law, and who is responsible for the cabinet’s integrity practice, was honorary president during the 4thInternational Arson Investigators Conference which took place on June 11 and June 12, 2015, at Lévis. This non-profit association offers information relating to arson investigation through seminars, conferences and training programs which allows participants to maintain a high degree of knowledge in that field. Ms. Cossette was invited as such following her participation in the Coroner and Commissionner of inquiry’s investigation of the Résidence du Hâvre tragedy, at L’Isle-Verte.

Marie Cossette, of Lavery, guest speaker at the Canadian Institute on disciplinary law
On June 3, 2015, Ms. Marie Cossette, litigation partner at Lavery, was a speaker during a day-long conference on disciplinary law as part of an advanced training session on administrative and disciplinary law organized by the Canadian Institute. On this occasion, Ms. Cossette delivered a talk on the recent case law developments in disciplinary law and outlined the dominant trends and main principles.

Marie Cossette - Panellist at two Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec breakfast conferences
On January 27, 2015 in Quebec City and January 30, in Montreal, Ms. Marie Cossette, a partner at Lavery, whose litigation practice focuses on public, administrative and disciplinary law, and who is responsible for the cabinet’s integrity practice, will sit on the breakfast discussion panels of Les matins de l’Ordre of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec. Ms. Cossette, and three other panellists, will engage in discussion about “The engineer’s responsibility: as a professional, how can an engineer take action in a regulated context?” (La responsabilité de l’ingénieur – En tant que professionnel, comment l’ingénieur peut-il agir dans un contexte réglementé?) Moderated by Patrick Masbourian in Montreal and by Pierre Houle in Quebec City, the panel will help participants understand the difference between codes of conduct and ethics, be better prepared and have better knowledge of professional responsibility best practices, learn more about civil, penal, corporate and personal responsibility, and reflect on the values of their profession. Marie Cossette participates in the opening workshop of the 71st ACRGTQ annual conference
On January 21, 2015, in Quebec City, Ms. Marie Cossette, a partner at Lavery, whose litigation practice focuses on public, administrative and disciplinary law, and who is responsible for the cabinet’s integrity practice, was a panellist at the opening workshop of the ACRGTQ annual conference (Association des constructeurs de routes et grands travaux du Québec). The congress and the workshop—the latter being a panel discussion hosted by Diane Martin previously with Radio-Canada in Quebec City—shared the same theme: “Let’s Build the Present” (Construisons le présent). Participants discussed the legal, ethical and media issues the industry faces and the various means at the disposal of builders to regain the trust of the population. Marie Cossette of Lavery – Speaker at the CNNAR Annual Conference
On October 28, 2014, Marie Cossette, a partner at Lavery, gave a conference during the investigations within regulatory bodies portion of the CNNAR (Canadian Network of National Associations of Regulators) Annual Conference; representatives of member organizations from across Canada attended the conference. Ms. Cossette’s topic was regulatory investigator testimony and proper preparation for investigator cross-examination during disciplinary hearings. Marie Cossette of Lavery speaks at the Canadian Institute’s anticorruption conference
Marie Cossette was a session speaker at The Canadian Institute’s conference La lutte contre la corruption au Québec, au Canada, aux États-Unis et à l’étranger (Anticorruption in Quebec, Canada, the US and Abroad) held in Montreal on October 29th, 2014. During her presentation, Ms. Cossette discussed ways to identify red flags and tag risks depending on the business field, of the location where it carries out its activities and of the scope of its interaction with local government authorities. She also spoke about internal due diligence programs, the necessity to adapt when the risk potential changes and how best to evaluate situations where excessive compensation is demanded by third parties.
