Lexpert recognizes two partners as leading workers’ compensation lawyers in Quebec
On February 10, 2021, Lexpert unveiled the identity of Québec’s leading lawyers in the field of workers’ compensation. Two Lavery partners, Guy Lavoie and Éric Thibaudeau, appear among the top lawyers in this area of practice. Guy Lavoie is a partner with the Labour and employment law group. His clients’ business concerns are always a priority when he proposes strategies and alternatives designed to resolve their problems. With over 30 years’ experience in labour relations, employment law, and occupational health and safety, he appears regularly before various administrative tribunals. He also works with the firm’s Business law group on the labour and employment law aspects of mergers and acquisitions. Éric Thibaudeau is a partner and a member of the Labour and Employment Group. He has special expertise in the area of occupational health and safety, regarding issues within the jurisdiction of the Administrative Labour Tribunal (ALT) as well as penal infractions prosecuted by the CNESST that are heard in the Court of Québec’s Criminal and Penal Division. He also acts for employers in grievance arbitrations, labour-relations matters and collective agreement decrees. In addition, he advises construction contractors and project owners on all matters within the jurisdiction of the construction industry regulatory authorities, such as the Commission de la construction du Québec and the Régie du bâtiment du Québec.

Two new professionals join the Lavery team
Lavery is pleased to announce the arrival of two new professionals. Alexandra Langevin, associate Alexandra Langevin is a member of the Litigation and Dispute Resolution group. She focuses her practice on professional law, insurance law and civil and commercial litigation. She began practising in various areas of law, including construction law, police ethics, labour and employment law, administrative law and civil liability. Cavaline Corine Madimba, associate Cavaline Corine Madimba is a lawyer in the Litigation and Conflict Resolution group. She focuses her practice on insurance law and general civil liability, and in particular on matters involving product liability, construction law and latent defects. In the course of her practice, Ms. Madimba frequently represents insurance companies and their insureds, both as plaintiffs and defendants, before the Administrative Housing Tribunal, the Court of Québec and the Superior Court.

Lavery Continues Forging Ahead: A Team of Five Labour Law Professionals is Joining the Firm
A team composed of Éric Thibaudeau, Laurence Bourgeois-Hatto, Catherine Deslauriers, Mélanie Desjardins and Cinthia Gauvreau is joining Lavery Lawyers in the Labour and Employment Law group in Montréal and Quebec City. His main area of practice is occupational health and safety. He has particular experience in matters relating to the funding of compensation plans. David Chun, Associate David Chun is a lawyer with the Family, Personal and Estate Law group. He focuses his practice on family law, particularly divorce, separation, child custody, provision for costs, division of property, and child and spousal support. Charlotte Dangoisse, Notary Charlotte Dangoisse is a notary in Lavery’s Business Law group, where she practises real estate law. She focuses her practice on the search and review of real estate and mining titles. Janet Dell'Orto, Trademark Agent Janet Dell’Orto trademark agent in Lavery’s Intellectual Property group. She focuses her practice on management and protection of trademarks, copyrights and industrial designs.

Lavery supports the growth of 01 Studio Inc.
On October 30, 2020, 01 Studio Inc., an enterprising, indie gaming studio, confirmed the closing of a financing with Skymoons Technology Inc., the video game division of Chinese multimedia giant iQIYI, to accelerate its growth and the development of its flagship game, Citywars Savage. In addition to the financing, the parties have agreed on the distribution of Citywars Savage in China and neighboring countries. A Lavery team composed of Jean-François Maurice, Étienne Brassard, Sébastien Vézina, Éric Lavallée, Florence Fournier and Stéphanie Dubois played a significant role in representing the interests of 01 Studio Inc. throughout the transaction, from negotiating the term sheet to the closing the transaction.

Death of Pierre L. Baribeau, former partner of Lavery Lawyers
Lavery Lawyers was greatly saddened to learn that Pierre L. Baribeau, a former partner of the firm, passed away on November 17, 2020. Pierre joined Lavery Lawyers in 1982 and left at the end of August of this year. For nearly 40 years, he was actively involved with the firm, in particular as leader of our Labour and Employment Law group and as a member of our Board of Directors. Throughout his prolific career, Pierre’s expertise in labour and employment law, administrative law and Aboriginal law was recognized on numerous occasions. Lavery wishes to offer its deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday, November 26, and Friday, November 27, 2020, from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Centre Funéraire Côte-des-Neiges, 4525 Chemin de la Côte-des-Neiges, Montréal, QC H3V 1E7.
