René Branchaud has been appointed Chairman of the Board of Dynacor Inc.
Montreal, July 15, 2010 - Lavery is proud to announce that René Branchaud has been named Chairman of the Board of Dynacor Inc. Mr. Branchaud has served on Dynacor's Board as Company Secretary since 2007. Partner at Lavery, Mr. Branchaud has been with the firm since 1983. Mr. Branchaud practises in the areas of securities law, mergers and acquisitions and corporate law and serves on the board of directors. He is corporate secretary of several public companies and non-profit organizations.

Bernard Larocque Appointed to ProBono Quebec’s Board of Directors
Montreal, July 12, 2010 - Bernard Laroque has been appointed to the Board of Directors of ProBono Quebec, a charity that promotes and coordinates pro bono legal work to resolve cases that are exceptional, raise issues of public interest or in which citizens or groups of citizens who do not have the financial resources to defend their rights could suffer permanent harm. Lavery is an active member of Pro Bono Québec, which hopes to become a meeting place for bringing together and generating pro bono legal initiatives aimed at improving access to justice.In addition, Mr. Larocque will continue to serve on the approval committee as he did last year.

Alexandre Despatie wins gold at the Summer Nationals
Lavery, proud sponsor of the Olympic champion Alexandre Despatie, would like to highlight his gold medal in diving on the men’s three-metre tower on Saturday at the Canadian Summer Nationals competition in Saskatoon. In the final, Despatie opened with a backward dive mostly for scores of 9.0 and went on to dive consistently for scores of 8.0 and 8.5.

Lavery welcomes Diana Darilus, Tax Lawyer
Montreal, June 22, 2010 – Lavery is pleased to welcome Ms. Diana Darilus to the tax law team of its Montreal office’s Business Law Practice Group. Ms. Darilus will serve clients mainly in matters related to corporate taxation and consumption taxes as well as the elaboration of tax and estate planning. Ms. Darilus received her law degree from the Université de Montréal in 2007 and studied at the Osgoode Hall Law School of York University for a semester. In addition, she was on the Dean’s Honour List of her graduating class of the Faculty of Law. Ms. Darilus was also awarded a scholarship in taxation from the Quebec Ministry of Finance and completed a Master’s degree (LL.M.) in taxation at HEC Montreal in 2010. She is a member of the Quebec Bar since 2010.

While at Canal Argent for the show called ‘En Affaires’ recently, Caroline Harnois answered questions on the precise regulations with regard to the deductibility of the legal fees related to obtaining, varying, enforcing or rescinding a child or spousal support order. Yvan Biron et Josiane L’Heureux held a Conference on Employers’ Rights During Inspections and Investigations
On June 17, 2010, Yvan Biron and Josiane L’Heureux gave a conference on the regulations during investigations and inspections in virtue of the Act Respecting Occupational Health and Safety and the Environment Quality Act. This conference, which was held at Saint-James Club in Montreal, was offered to Lavery’s clients and lawyers.

Louis Charette holds a conference at the Canadian Institute
On June 8th and 9th, Louis Charette was a speaker at the Canadian Institute during a seminar on risk management following the processing of general liability and property insurance claims. Mr. Charette’s presentation, which was held in Montreal, was on insurance policies intended for manufacturers and professional sellers.

Lavery participates in the privatization of Logibec Groupe Informatique in an amount of $235M
Lavery is serving as counsel in Quebec for the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS) with regard to the privatization of Logibec Groupe Informatique Ltd. (Logibec) by OPE LGI Inc. by way of a take-over bid in an amount of 235 million dollars. Logibec, which has 420 employees, specializes in information systems for the health and social services sector. OPE LGI Inc. is a new acquisition company established by OMERS, the private equity arm of OMERS Worldwide, and in which the Société générale de financement du Quebec has agreed to make a minority equity commitment.

Alexandre Despatie Competed in China
Lavery would like to emphasize Alexandre Despatie’s efforts at the Diving World Cup competition in Changzhou, China. The firm is proud to sponsor Alexandre who, once again, competed eagerly to earn a medal which, unfortunately, he lost by a narrow margin in the final dive. Louis Charette and Jean Saint-Onge held presentations at the The Alchemy of Advocacy (AGM 2010) at Canadian Defense Lawyers in Toronto on June 3rd and 4th. Mr. Charette reviewed the application of strict liability principles in the context of products liability. Mr. Saint-Onge presented on multijurisdictional class actions.
