  1. Lavery appoints three new partners

    Lavery is pleased to welcome the following professionals as partners in the firm. Sylvain Pierrard – Québec Sylvain Pierrard is a lawyer and trademark agent in the firm’s Business law and the Intellectual Property groups. He focuses his practice on trademarks, copyright, corporate and commercial law. Frédéric Laflamme – Trois-Rivières Frédéric Laflamme is a member of the firm’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution group. His practice is focused on matters involving civil and commercial litigation, such as civil liability, construction law and shareholder disputes. He is called upon to represent Canadian and foreign companies, insurers, manufacturers, contractors and shareholders before Quebec’s superior courts, and to advise them on settling their disputes. Vincent Towner – Sherbrooke Vincent Towner is a member of the Business law group. He frequently collaborates in matters involving corporate reorganizations and business transactions. Mr. Towner also drafts contracts such as commercial leases, service agreements, and supply agreements. This cohort of new partners plays a crucial role in the growth of the firm and our desire to be a growth partner for companies doing business in Quebec.   2. Lavery represents athlete and former Olympian in athletics Bruny Surin in a dispute

    Sébastien Vézina, a partner of the Business Law group, together with Martin Pichette and Frédéric Laflamme, respectively a partner and a lawyer of the Litigation and Conflict Resolution group, are representing Bruny Surin in a dispute instituted against a sporting goods manufacturer. Mr. Surin alleges that the business used his name on a brand of running shoes without his consent. Thanks to Lavery, Bruny Surin won the first step in the proceeding as the Superior Court dismissed the defendant’s motion for dismissal on the ground that the Quebec courts lack jurisdiction to hear the dispute. The defendants were also ordered to disclose information to Bruny Surin on the proceeds from the sale of the shoes in Canada.

  3. Frédéric Laflamme hosts the 7th edition of Toute la ville parle PME

    Frédéric Laflamme, an associate in the Litigation and Conflict Resolution group, hosted the 7th edition of Toute la ville parle PME, organized by the Chambre de commerce et d'industrie de Shawinigan and held on May 11 at the Maison de la culture Francis-Brisson. Similar in concept to the Francophone talk show Tout le monde en parle, the event follows the path and experiences of nine Shawinigan entrepreneurs as they start-up, consolidate or expand.

  4. Ex-host of ICI Radio-Canada joins Lavery Litigation Group in Trois-Rivières

    Lavery is pleased to welcome Frédéric Laflamme to its litigation group, where he will practise in a number of areas related to civil and commercial litigation. After starting out at a national law firm and completing graduate studies in journalism at a French university, Frédéric was a host for ICI Radio-Canada Première for a decade, most notably in Mauricie and Centre-du-Québec; he also took part in numerous national shows. “We are glad that Frederic will add a new chapter to his career by joining the Lavery team. This is an exciting professional challenge that will allow him to put his skills as a litigator to good use for the firm’s clients,” added Jean Boulet, partner and manager of the Lavery Trois-Rivières office.
