    On November 23, 2016, Marie Cossette, partner and Chloé Fauchon, lawyer, participated to ABC-Quebec debate entitled “The limits of professional freedom of expression”.  Several topics were covered and Marie Cossette, partner, acted as moderator., Chloé Fauchon encouraged the invited speakers to discuss the balance between the obligation of courtesy,  the obligation to encourage respect for the courts of law and the judicial system, together with one’s duty to criticize them when necessary.

  2. Marie Cossette shares her 7 key tips to master the art of listening

    Marie Cossette, partner and L’effet A leader, shared her “7 key tips to master the art of listening” (“7 clés pour devenir une pro de l’écoute”) in an interview published on the L’effet A website November 9, 2016. She stressed that learning to listen is a fundamental skill to master to progress in one’s career. Listening makes it possible to get a better understanding of our professional environment and create trust-based relationships with colleagues and teammates. L’effet A’s mission is “to drive women’s professional commitment to give them the courage to excel and take concrete actions by showcasing inspiring leaders who offer a new perspective on female ambition as well as offering practical tools adapted to the new realities women face.”

  3. Lavery and Marie Cossette inspire professional ambition in women

    Marie Cossette, a partner at the firm and one of the leaders of the first cohort in the L’effet A initiative in Quebec City, has set up a challenge for participants who have chosen her as a leader. She has recruited participants from both the culturaland corporate world thus  creating interesting networking opportunities. Four Lavery lawyers (Paméla Kelly-Nadeau, Chloé Fauchon,Sarah Leclerc and Anthonie Vézina-Crawford) have taken the Défi 100 jours L’effet A (link to French-only website): a unique professional training program with an innovative approach that identifies talent and encourages women to adopt a more ambitious attitude that will help boost their careers. The experience is based on three pillars: 1) inspiration- the implication of well-known leaders and coaches, 2) action- by taking up challenges and completing exercises and 3) sharing,-through interaction with women from all professional spheres.

  4. Marie Cossette leads an “Effet A” workshop on self-confidence

    On Saturday, October 15, 2017, Marie Cossette, a partner at the firm and head of the Business Integrity group as well as the Quebec City office’s Administrative law group, led the first L’effet A (the A Effect) workshop on the topic of self-confidence during which she presented an editorial on courage. A few well-known guests also spoke, such as Louise Cordeau, Christiane Germain and Isabelle Hudon, in addition to one of the other leaders, Marie-Pier St-Hilaire. All the themes covered related to self-confidence, the tools required to develop it and the path to take to learn how to deal with events when self-confidence flags.   5. Marie Cossette named to the board of directors of La Fondation du Musée national des beaux-art du Québec

    Marie Cossette, a partner at the firm and head of its Business Integrity group and the Québec City office’s Administrative law group was recently named to the board of directors of La Fondation du Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec. The foundation played an active role in making the new Pierre-Lassonde Pavilion a reality. With this involvement through the foundation, Lavery confirms its position as a leader in the region and as a key player who believes in the importance of building bridges between the business and cultural worlds.

  6. Marie Cossette participates in the “Femmes en finance, femmes en action” conference

    On September 13, 2016, Marie Cossette, a partner at the firm, was a panelist during the “l’Effet A…les suites” workshop along with four of her co-leaders of the first cohort of the “Défi 100 jours l’effet A” in Québec. During the workshop, she spoke about the recent survey sponsored by l’Effet A on women’s ambition and shared her thoughts on women in executive positions. The workshop was held within the scope of the Cercle Finance du Québec’s “Femmes en finance, femmes en action...parce qu'oser, c'est gagner” conference. Four hundred people took part in the event, which was capped off with a closing speech by Quebec’s Deputy Premier Lise Thériault.

  8. Marie Cossette interviewed by The Lawyers Weekly on newly introduced Quebec ethics bill

    Marie Cossette, partner and head of Lavery’s business integrity group, was recently interviewed by Luis Millan from The Lawyers Weekly in an article titled ‘Questions raised over Quebec ethics bill flowing Commission Charbonneau’ in which she discussed the newly introduced legislation: "The bill is a follow-up to the Charbonneau Commission which raised awareness among different decision-making bodies over the importance of creating a culture of ethics and integrity in our society," said Marie Cossette, an administrative law expert who heads the business integrity group for Lavery, de Billy and who is based in Québec City. "The bill will not change attitudes but it is a step in the right direction. It fosters training and gives professional corporations powers to allow them to play an increased role in monitoring."   9. Marie Cossette speaker and president of a disciplinary law training organized by Open Forum

    May 31, 2016, Marie Cossette, partner at Lavery and head of the business integrity group, chaired a disciplinary law training organized by Open Forum. Several topics were discussed during the event, including the obligation to work and the trustee's powers of investigation, the disciplinary law expert, disciplinary complaints conduct and evidence and procedures new rules, as well as the place of prejudice in determining the sanction and conciliation in disciplinary law. For her part, Ms. Cossette reviewed the landmark decisions of the highest courts in disciplinary law to help people in the field identifying trends and issues to watch. She was assisted by Ms. Charlotte Fortin in the preparation of the conference.

  11. Corporate and business integrity: a conference organized by Lavery for Quebec’s business community

    On May 5, Lavery’s  Integrity group hosted a business breakfast on issues related to corporate and business integrity. Attendees learned about integrity-related issues to be prioritized, specific ways to identify the internal and external risks facing them, and proven ways to manage those risks. A portion of the discussion also dealt with actions to take in case of a police search and seizure operation and media crisis management. This conference was lead by Marie Cossette, Lavery’s  partner heading the Corporate and business integrity group. The following partners were also invited to speak:  André Vautour and André Laurin, business law, Raymond Doray, administrative law, Philippe Frère, administrative and regulatory law litigation, and Isabelle Briand, criminal and penal law.
