BIOGRAPHY

Marc Beauchemin devotes his practice to commercial law and has specifically developed a solid expertise in financial institution law. Canadian and foreign banks, savings banks, credit unions, trust companies, insurance companies and securities brokers regularly call upon his expertise, particularly when embarking on business combinations, mergers or restructurings.

 

He has also contributed to a number of business sale and purchase transactions, the development of innovative financial products, including estate management products, and the establishment of strategic alliances and commercial partnerships for distributing financial products.

 

Mr. Beauchemin has represented financial institutions before government authorities upon the tabling of new bills or draft regulations governing or applying to the distribution of their products. He has also initiated a number of private bills that were enacted into legislation.

 

Mr. Beauchemin's experience includes advising on a number of significant transactions prior to joining Lavery in 2011. These include:

 

  • National Bank of Canada purchases Canadian Tire Bank’s mortgage loans
  • Crédit Agricole (Suisse) acquires National Bank of Canada subsidiary in Bahamas
  • Natcan Investment Management Inc. Reaches an agreement with Selexia Investment Management Inc. to manage its large-cap institutional portfolios
  • Computershare acquiring share ownership management services business of National Bank Trust
  • Corporate restructuring of National Bank of Canada's securities subsidiaries
  • Joint venture between National Bank of Canada and AXA for the direct sale of damage insurance
  • National Bank of Canada selling its stake in Alter Moneta
  • Sale of a credit card merchant portfolio for the benefit of Global Payments
  • Structuring of personal insurance distribution channels for National Bank Life Insurance Company
